Maker Moments

Innovation with and for Seniors

Maker Moments is a monthly community program hosted at the Tri-Lakes Activity Center in collaboration with Silver Key. These sessions invite seniors and other curious community members into conversations and hands-on experiences around innovation, creativity, and making.

Whether the topic is 3D printing, digital design, practical problem-solving, or everyday inventions, Maker Moments is designed to be welcoming, engaging, and easy to explore—no technical background required.

Why Maker Moments?

Innovation is not just for the next generation. It is also shaped by experience, curiosity, and practical wisdom.

Maker Moments creates space for seniors to:

  • Explore new tools and technologies in an approachable way
  • Discuss how innovation can improve daily life, accessibility, and independence
  • Share ideas, stories, and real-world perspectives
  • Connect with others through creativity and conversation
  • Discover how making can be both practical and fun

What to Expect

Each monthly session includes a mix of discussion, demonstration, and interaction. Topics may vary from month to month, but sessions often include:

  • Conversations about innovation and how it affects everyday life
  • Demonstrations of maker tools such as 3D printing and digital fabrication
  • Examples of useful, creative, or curious projects
  • Opportunities to ask questions and exchange ideas
  • A friendly environment focused on learning together

Some sessions may also include simple hands-on activities or examples participants can explore more after the event.

Example Topics We Explore

Each Maker Moments session introduces a different idea, tool, or conversation around innovation and creativity. Topics are designed to be practical, interesting, and easy to understand.

  • 3D Printing & Modern Making – See how objects are designed and produced with 3D printers, and explore everyday items that can be created with this technology.
  • Assistive Tools & Accessibility – Discover simple innovations and custom solutions that can help improve independence and quality of life.
  • Personalized Keepsakes – Learn how digital tools and maker equipment can create meaningful personalized items such as engraved pieces, custom gifts, and memory keepsakes.
  • Digital Design – Explore how simple digital drawings and designs can become real physical objects through modern fabrication tools.

About Monumental Impact

Monumental Impact is a nonprofit community makerspace serving high school students, college students, adults, and seniors. Through programs in making, entrepreneurship, career readiness, and technology, we help community members explore ideas, build skills, and create meaningful connections.

Maker Moments is one of the ways we extend that mission into the broader community—bringing innovation out of the workshop and into conversation.
