Internships at Monumental Impact
Learn. Contribute. Grow.
Monumental Impact internships give high school and college students the opportunity to build real-world skills while contributing meaningful work to our organization and community.
This is not a shadowing program. Interns become part of our working teams, contribute to real projects and organizational needs, learn alongside experienced community members and mentors, and develop technical and professional skills along the way.
Whether you’re exploring a future career, developing skills you already have, or looking for experience you can take into college or the workplace, we want you to use your skills while building new ones.
Who Internships Are For
Our internships are a good fit for high school and college students who:
- Want hands-on experience in technology, engineering, entrepreneurship, business, or community-based work
- Want to apply what they’re learning in school to real projects
- Are exploring career and college pathways
- Want to develop technical and professional skills
- Enjoy creating, solving problems, or helping others
- Want meaningful experience for a resume, portfolio, or college application
- Are ready to take responsibility for their work and contribute as part of a team
You don’t need to arrive knowing everything. Learning is part of the experience.
Career Readiness Through Real Work
Career readiness is more than learning a technical skill.
Interns work within an operating nonprofit and community makerspace where projects have goals, customers and community members have needs, events have deadlines, and teams have to communicate and work together.
Through that experience, interns can develop:
- Technical and hands-on skills
- Professional communication
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Project planning
- Time management and reliability
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting
- Accountability and follow-through
- Leadership
- An understanding of how organizations actually get work done
Find a Team Where You Can Contribute
Intern opportunities vary based on your interests, experience, organizational needs, and the projects underway during each engagement term.
Interns may contribute within one or more of our functional teams.

Product Development & Delivery
Help turn ideas into products, prototypes, kits, and other solutions that can be tested, improved, and delivered.

- CAD, graphic, mechanical, electrical, or software design
- Building prototypes and mockups
- Using makerspace equipment to fabricate parts and products

- Developing product kits, packaging, instructions, or documentation
- Preparing products for small-batch production
- Supporting product costing, pricing, and sourcing
- Working with Marketing, Events, and other teams to gather feedback or introduce products
- Documenting processes so products can be reproduced or improved by others
Projects may support entrepreneurship, competitive robotics, community needs, makerspace activities, or other Monumental Impact initiatives.
The goal isn’t simply to make something. Interns gain experience understanding how an idea moves from concept through development, testing, improvement, and delivery.

Use Your Skills. Build Your Skills.
Internships aren’t one-size-fits-all.
You may arrive with experience in CAD, photography, robotics, programming, social media, graphic design, business, engineering—or something we haven’t thought of yet.
We’ll look at what you already know, what you’d like to learn, and where meaningful work is available.
You may receive training, work alongside a mentor, collaborate with volunteers and other interns, or learn new tools while completing a project.
The goal is to contribute something meaningful while leaving with greater skills, confidence, and experience than when you started.
Grow Into Greater Responsibility
Interns aren’t expected to arrive ready to lead.
As you gain experience and demonstrate reliability, you may have opportunities to take greater ownership of projects and activities.
Some interns may become a Student-in-Charge, helping turn team goals into actionable work, coordinating with other students, tracking progress, and communicating with Volunteer Team Leads.
Others may lead a particular project, event activity, product, or technical effort.
Leadership is something you can grow into through experience.
Internship Engagement Terms
We offer internship opportunities during defined engagement terms so interns and our teams have enough time to work together and accomplish meaningful work.
Academic Year
September 14 – April 16
Interns are asked to commit a minimum of approximately 3 hours per week during the academic-year engagement term.
Summer
Summer internships provide a more concentrated opportunity to participate in projects, events, programs, and makerspace activities.

Specific schedules and expectations are discussed during the interview and onboarding process based on the team, project, and intern’s availability.
How to Get Started
1. Learn About Us
Explore our website or, even better, come visit the makerspace to see what our community is working on.

2. Apply
Submit your information, cover letter and resume through Join Our Community.
Tell us about your interests, experience, what you’d like to learn, and why you’re interested in Monumental Impact.

3. Meet With Us
We’ll schedule a conversation to learn more about you, discuss your availability and interests, and explore where you might fit.
Whenever possible, we also want prospective interns to see our makerspace and meet some of the people they’ll be working alongside.
4. Orientation & Onboarding
If there’s a good fit, you’ll complete orientation and onboarding and connect with your team, projects, mentors, and other resources.
Then it’s time to get to work.
Your Internship May End. Your Connection Doesn’t Have To.
Completing an internship doesn’t mean you have to leave the Monumental Impact community.
Interns may choose to stay involved as:
- Members
- Volunteers
- Project contributors or leads
- Mentors as their experience grows
- Participants in Entrepreneurship, Competitive Robotics, and other Member Programs
Some may even return for another internship engagement term with greater responsibilities.
Keep learning. Keep creating. Keep in touch.
