Volunteer with Monumental Impact
Monumental Impact is a community makerspace where volunteers help make our programs, projects, events, and Open Hours possible. Whether you bring professional experience, technical skills, organizational talents, or simply a willingness to jump in and help, there are many ways to get involved.
Some volunteers contribute to a specific project or event. Others mentor community members, help support Open Hours, take ownership of an ongoing effort, or step into a leadership role.
You don’t have to know exactly where you fit before reaching out. Come visit our makerspace in Palmer Lake and talk with us, or submit your information so we can learn more about your interests, experience, and how you’d like to get involved.
Contribute. Mentor. Lead.
Volunteering at Monumental Impact doesn’t have to start with a large commitment. Find an opportunity that matches your interests and availability, get to know our community, and grow your involvement from there.

Open Hours
One of the best ways volunteers can help our community is by helping us expand the hours our makerspace is available.
Open Hours volunteers help welcome members, provide access to the space, answer questions, and connect people with equipment, mentors, projects, and programs.
Our policy requires two adults to be present whenever the makerspace is open. Ideally, those volunteers bring complementary knowledge of our equipment, programs, projects, or community.
Interested but not ready to host Open Hours yourself? Ask us about shadowing opportunities.
Programs & Projects
Have a technical skill, professional background, hobby, or project interest you’d like to share?
Volunteers can lead or contribute to projects involving:
- Technology and engineering
- Entrepreneurship and product development
- Competitive robotics
- Member projects
- Community projects
- Equipment and fabrication
- Software and AI
- Design tools
- Business, marketing, and operations
You might help for one project, participate periodically, or become part of an ongoing team.
Financials
Help us strengthen the behind-the-scenes financial operations that keep Monumental Impact and our programs running.
Current needs include:
- Monitoring and managing transactions and subscriptions
- Working with Financials Team members to reconcile accounts and close the books each month
- Helping transition transaction management, reconciliation, and financial reporting into QuickBooks Online
- Helping document and improve financial workflows and processes as our systems evolve
Mentor
Share what you know. Help someone else figure out what comes next.
Mentors support our community by sharing experience, guidance, and practical insight. You don’t need to manage a team or have all the answers. Mentors help others develop skills, think through problems, explore possibilities, and apply what they’re learning to real-world situations.
Mentoring opportunities may include:
- Engineering
- Technology and software
- CAD and design tools
- Equipment and fabrication
- Entrepreneurship and business
- Product development
- Competitive robotics
- Marketing and communications
- Project planning and management
- Career exploration and professional development
Mentoring may happen during Open Hours, as part of a project or program, or through an ongoing connection with a student, intern, or other community member.

A Community of Lifelong Learners
Our volunteer model is intentionally flexible.
You may come to Monumental Impact with decades of professional experience, be developing new skills yourself, or fall somewhere in between. Our community brings together high school students, college students, adults, and seniors who can learn from one another while working on real projects and experiences.
Volunteers may work alongside Volunteer Team Leads, Mentors, Students-in-Charge, interns, members, and other volunteers depending on the effort.
You can start by contributing, discover an opportunity to mentor, take ownership of a project, or eventually lead a team.
Contribute → Mentor → Lead
There isn’t only one path.
Time Commitment
Volunteer commitments vary depending on the opportunity.
Some volunteers contribute to a single event or project. Others help a few hours each month, while volunteers supporting ongoing teams, programs, or Open Hours may commit several hours each week.
We’ll talk about your availability and interests before determining what type of commitment makes sense.
Background Checks
To help maintain a safe, welcoming, and trusted environment, all volunteer roles at Monumental Impact require a background check.
As a nonprofit organization, volunteers age 21 and over are asked to cover the cost of their background check. Monumental Impact coordinates the process and provides instructions as part of onboarding.
