Request Something Custom

Have an Idea? Let’s See What We Can Make.

Sometimes you know exactly what you need.

Sometimes you have a rough sketch.

And sometimes you simply have an idea and are not sure how to make it real.

Through Made @ Monumental Impact, individuals, businesses, nonprofits, schools, and community organizations can submit ideas for custom products and projects that may be a good fit for our makerspace capabilities, equipment, programs, and community.

When Monumental Impact accepts a custom request, the project is developed and delivered through Made @ Monumental Impact. Along the way, the project may create opportunities for community members, interns, volunteers, and team participants to apply and develop their skills through a real-world need.

What Could We Help Create?

Requests might include:

  • Personalized gifts and keepsakes
  • Awards and recognition items
  • Signs and displays
  • Event items
  • Promotional and commemorative pieces
  • Laser-cut or engraved creations
  • 3D-printed parts and objects
  • Prototypes
  • Replacement or specialty parts
  • Robotics or STEM-related components
  • Artwork and mixed-media projects
  • Small-batch or limited-run items
  • Other unique ideas that could use a maker’s touch

Every project is different.

Capabilities, timing, materials, costs, and our ability to accept a project will depend on the nature of the request and available equipment, program capacity, and community resources.

From Idea to Something Real

Depending on the project, a custom request may involve several steps:

  • Share Your Idea: Tell us what you are trying to create, why you need it, your desired timeline, and any sketches, photos, examples, or specifications you already have.
  • Explore the Possibilities: We’ll consider whether the request is a good fit for our equipment, capabilities, programs, available resources, and opportunities for hands-on learning.
  • Develop the Approach: Some projects may require design work, prototyping, material testing, iteration, or collaboration before a final product can be produced.
  • Make It Real: When there’s a good fit, the project can move forward with clear expectations around scope, cost, timing, and delivery through Made @ Monumental Impact.

Custom Projects Can Also Create Learning Opportunities

A custom request can become more than something that gets made.

When appropriate, Made @ Monumental Impact projects provide opportunities for community members, interns, volunteers, and team participants to work with real-world needs while developing technology, engineering, entrepreneurship, business, and career-readiness skills.

Depending on the project, that experience might include:

  • Understanding a customer’s need
  • Researching and developing concepts
  • Creating digital designs
  • Selecting and testing materials
  • Prototyping
  • Fabricating and producing
  • Testing and refining
  • Estimating costs and considering pricing
  • Planning production
  • Communicating with a customer
  • Quality control
  • Delivering a finished product
  • Gathering feedback
  • Evaluating what could be improved next time

It’s another way we use real products and projects as a learning environment—moving from an idea or need through creating, testing, delivering, and evaluating something real.

Looking for an Independent Maker?

Not every request needs to become a Made @ Monumental Impact project.

If you’re looking to connect directly with a community member about their independently offered products, services, skills, or business, explore our Maker Directory.

Products and services offered independently by community members are separate from Made @ Monumental Impact, and arrangements are made directly with the individual community member.
