You do not necessarily need to know what is wrong.

What Can You Bring?

A Make It Work Clinic may be a good place to explore:

  • Small items that need repair or troubleshooting
  • Electronics and soldering projects
  • Mechanical problems
  • Maker and DIY projects that have hit a roadblock
  • 3D-printed or fabricated parts that need improvement
  • Prototypes that need another set of eyes
  • Items that may need a replacement or custom-made part
  • Projects where you are simply not sure what to try next

Not every item can be repaired, and some projects may require specialized parts, expertise, or professional services beyond what is available at the clinic.

But sometimes another perspective, the right tool, or a little experience is all it takes to find the next step.

Learn While We Work

A Make It Work Clinic is not simply a drop-off repair service.

Whenever possible, we encourage you to work alongside members of our community, learn more about the problem, explore possible solutions, and participate in making it work.

That might mean:

  • Diagnosing an electrical problem
  • Learning to solder a connection
  • Taking something apart to understand how it works
  • Designing a replacement part
  • 3D printing or fabricating a solution
  • Repairing or modifying an existing item
  • Getting advice on how to move a project forward

Sometimes success means fixing the item.

Sometimes it means understanding why it cannot reasonably be fixed.

And sometimes it means discovering a completely different solution.

Sharing Skills. Solving Problems. Learning by Doing.

Make It Work Clinics reflect an important part of makerspace culture: people sharing practical knowledge, helping one another solve problems, and learning through hands-on experience.

They also provide opportunities for experienced community members to share what they know while helping others build confidence and new skills.
