3D Printing (FDM Intro)

This introductory equipment training covers the fundamentals of FDM (filament) 3D printing and how to use our printers safely and effectively. Participants will learn what FDM 3D printers are best used for, what materials are available, and the basic workflow for preparing and running a print.

Topics include:

  • What FDM 3D printing is and common use cases
  • Overview of available filament materials and their differences
  • Safety guidelines and best practices
  • Basic slicer concepts and print setup
  • Starting, monitoring, and removing prints properly
  • Common print issues and basic troubleshooting
  • Cleanup and care expectations for shared equipment

Completion of this training is required for members before using FDM 3D printers independently during makerspace access hours.

No prior 3D printing experience is required—this session is designed for beginners and those new to FDM printing.
