3D Scanner

This introductory equipment training covers the fundamentals of using our 3D scanner to capture physical objects and turn them into digital models. Participants will learn what types of projects 3D scanning is best suited for, how to set up and operate the scanner, and how scan data can be used for design, repair, and 3D printing.

Topics include:

  • What 3D scanning is and common use cases
  • Types of objects that scan well (and those that don’t)
  • Basic scanner setup and capture workflow
  • Tips for getting clean, usable scans
  • Overview of processing scan data and exporting files
  • How scanned models can be edited or prepared for 3D printing
  • Cleanup and care expectations for shared equipment

Completion of this training is required for members before using the 3D scanner independently during makerspace access hours.

No prior 3D scanning experience is required. This session is designed for beginners and those new to scanning workflows.
