Competitive Robotics: Open Robotics Competition (ORC)
This is a members-only Competitive Robotics cohort focused on designing, building, testing, and preparing to compete in the Open Robotics Competition (ORC). Participants work alongside fellow builders in a collaborative environment, learning through hands-on experimentation, iteration, and shared problem-solving.
Members / Teams are responsible for purchasing the materials used for their individual robot projects.
Rather than following a fixed curriculum, this cohort emphasizes guided peer learning, and real-world engineering tradeoffs. Builders are encouraged to explore different approaches, learn from testing and failure, and continuously improve their designs.
Kickoff
Saturday, May 9 @ 3:00pm
At the kickoff, participants will review the ORC opportunity, discuss individual/teaming interests, and decide when they want to meet together as a club moving forward.
What to expect
- Peer learning support throughout robot design and build
- Hands-on work with drivetrains, mechanisms, controls, and durability
- Testing, troubleshooting, and iterative improvement
- Preparation for matches and future competitive events
- A strong focus on safety, sportsmanship, and collaboration
This cohort supports a range of experience levels, from first-time builders to experienced competitors, and provides a supportive on-ramp into competitive robotics.
